The people living in Nya Lödöse had no choice. They had to take down their houses and move to the new Gothenburg. In the summer of 1622 the water was let in to the large harbour canal. At the time Gothenburg was still more a building site than a city. There were only a few houses and the people who had to leave Nya Lödöse were not happy. Why did they have to live here - and why were the best building plots going to foreign merchants?
