Object description

En checkskrivare/checkstämplingsmaskin av svartlackerad metall. Tillverkad av Todd Protectograph Co. i Rochester, USA, troligen på 1920-talet. Protektografen "Protectograph Check Writer" introducerades 1913 och salufördes 1913-1930. Några modellnamn är "Exactly", "Thoroughbred" och "Double Quick". Källa: Office Museum

En checkstämplingsmaskin används för att skydda en check från icke auktoriserade ändringar av antingen en summa eller en signatur. Detta sker på olika sätt på olika maskiner, men ofta genom att lämna ett avtryck, t ex små perforeringar, i fältet där summan skrivs med antingen siffror eller bokstäver. Användning:

"Operation of the Protectograph Check Writer

TO SET GAUGES - Open machine, and note gold line along top of base, its entire length. Lay check on shelf in position for writing, point where amount is to begin even with gold line. Then move gauge "4" against right hand end of check. Close machine. See illustration. Move indicator "6" to word "Release" on dial, place check in machine; top of check against back och shelf; end of check against gauge "1". With check in this position, raise shelf slightly, then move it forward or backward as needed to bring line of print to position shown in Fig. II.

TO PRINT CHECK - To print a check for "*** Five Dollars", indicator must be at word "Release" to insert check. See preceding paragraph. Revolve crank "1", stopping in position shown in illustration. This automatically moves indicator from word "Release" to "***" and prints "***". Set indicator at "Five" and revolve crank. Set indicator at "Dollars" and revolve crank. Set indicator at "Release" and temove check from either side of machine.
