I believe that this is one of the steatite spindle whorls mentioned in the publication Lindälv, E., 1964. Täljstensfynd och täljstensbrott i Halland. Vår bygd. 011-30 (the museum inventory number matches those given in the text). If so, then it was part of the hoard of ~200 steatite spindle whorls in progress discovered by blasting the hill at "nr 2 Hjälm" in 1916, which is also described on the Fornsök web page as L1997:3207 Depåfynd Fjärås 172:1 It could be interesting to update the database entry with this information, if you agree with my interpretation. I am preparing a thesis for graduate degree in archaeology at the University of Durham, UK on Swedish Viking Age Steatite artefacts, which is how I came across this paper and went looking to see if there are any photos of the artefacts. I would welcome any further information or photos you would care to share on the items in this collection. Thanks! (I will echo this comment for all eight artefacts from this collection (of the ~200 found), which were donated to the museum in 1917.
